In comparing prints made recently to the same files printed, say, a year ago, the latest prints don't show the fine and subtle details that are visible on the older prints, even though all the important printing parameters were the same (size, resolution, paper, custom profile used, etc.). When I run a standard Image Quality page or do a color calibration, the colored rectangles on the printout show no banding at all, but the greyscale rectangles display an even but fairly subtle banding across the entire rectangle, but this banding is not visible in a normal photographic image. I have tried cleaning the printheads and running a printhead alignment, but the greyscale banding persists.
The printer has not received heavy use--I am still using the original black cartridge and printhead (the printhead out-of-warrantly date is Oct. 11, 2006). Is it likely that this loss of fine detail is due to this apparently bad printhead, and if not, what else could it be? Thanks to anyone who might shed some light on this problem.
