Scott, The cheapest option, that uses equal amounts of colour from all tanks, is RGB:255,255,255. :-)
I don't think that's the answer you wanted, though. Without knowing the actual curves the printer uses to lay down different quantities of inks for a given RGB or CMYK value (which is probably a function of the printer driver, or RIP) it's going to be difficult to answer this. You might get close by going to a CMYK colour space and specifying equal quantities of C,M,Y and K. If the values chosen are close to midtones then you might start to use both of magenta/light magenta and cyan/light cyan, but again it's down to the printer driver or RIP. I think you'll probably get an unpleasant shade of grey-green or grey-brown - which may not be a particularly attractive background color - but I'm not near my printer at the moment, so I can't try it.
