Something is horribly wrong, but that something is not you. I
recently went through this with my new Mac. I'm not sure why this
isn't a bigger issue on this forum -- and why HP hasn't addressed the
issue.

Okay - so after hunting and pecking I found a fix for Tiger and the
new Sys Main Utility. Here is what you do.
In library/printers/HP/utilities/printer model data files
Edit this line in this file:
HP designjet 130nr.plist
line 35: change it to this
<string>HP designjet sys maint</string>
This makes it match the name HP gave it, and it works. Worked for
me on an HP 130nr.

He's a little sloppy with the directory and filename.
The directory is:
/Library/Printers/HP/Utilities/Printer Model Data Files/
The file is one of these:
hp designjet 130.plst
hp designjet 130nr.plst
I have the DesignJet 30n, so I changed this file: hp designjet 30n.plst
Following the instructions in the post, my line 35 is now:
<string>HP designjet sys maint</string>
This fixed the problem for me.
If you do try it, you might want to save a copy of the original
before editing it.
