I also have the EFI XL, and I agree that it needs some major cleanup on the way it applies settings on the file that is about to print...or on saved settings..its all over the place. I am really in shock of how such a long time company with product that claims to be designed in Germany, with so many revisions of the same software has NOT gotten the interface cleaned up on how things are applied. I have the latest 5.1.4 and It was just a month ago that they had this update to fix problems that made the software useless. the patch helped things out...but now it wont calibrate, or take the calibrated settings. Its just so odd to me. I use the DJ 130, and I know they want to be on top of the game to for making the RIP best for the Z series HP printers, and hacking away at the past printers is surely not the way to do it. So far I spent 8 full hours trying to figure out if the 600dpi setting, or the paper size, or the USB port was the culprit,(since it switched to the IP on its own), or if its the CMYK.....then I have as options for paper, Premium Plus Photo Satin vs. Premium Plus Photo Paper Satin...thats right Paper Satin??? is there a canvas satin I dont know of??...These are some major issues that have basically crippled me from doing business of proofs with my image work. I cannot calibrate the specific papers. I have used Onyx on Epson, very nicely. I have also had the CGI ORIS, rip which was really good on the Epson. In fact I might need to go with the Oris if they have it for 130, as this $1K was more of a headache than a solution...Im really upset since I have spent the money. Whats even more sad is I have not gotten support AT ALL, only because I dont have the printer registered as this RIP support goes direct thru HP, and they don't support it without it being registered. I don't have my proof, so everytime I go thru the hoops of getting the copy from Sams Camera, I end up having the proof printed off a friends Onyx/Epson, or I make something work out. I have about a month left, and I have finally got the paper work to register this...so I will have 1 month of support, I will report back to the posts of how they fix these issues. As I think the EFI COULD be a great RIP, but not with these fumbles. I hope you check back here and see how EFI /HP handle this issue, since support will be a very important factor in the RIP you chose. Best, Phil Indeblance

Two reasons I have for choosing it is the power to process so many different types of files, but definitely the speed and color profiling capability. Give it a try.
