Hi Laura, OK, let's try to look at a simple workflow. You want to print something. You send this to the printer through the driver or RIP, this translates it to printer data and sends that to the printer. That is, let's say a very general path.
When you are printing the color palette to profile your canvas, I don't know whether you are using the driver or the RIP, but in the very final stage, so to speak, the data is converted into Printer CMYK. It's a bit confusing to say that the DnJ5000 non PS can print in both RGB and CMYK. In principle, it doesn't matter what you send to the printer, your image could have an RGB or CMYK profile or be in one of these two color spaces, the driver or RIP you are using will convert it to the right printable data. Remember our general work path. For this printer, there is only 1 driver, the HPGL/2 driver, generally called the Windows driver. When someone says this prints in RGB, this is what is meant: Imagine the driver to be a black box. You don't really need to know what goes on inside this box, but you should send it the right data. You do this by making changes or selecting options in the driver properties interface. The data of your image or job is then gathered and sent to the driver for conversion. This gathered data is either in an RGB color space or a CMYK one. For the Windows driver, this is RGB. That's why people say it prints in RGB. So the input of the driver has to be RGB. The entry point to the driver is RGB. A PS driver has an entry in CMYK. I'd like to know why to Tech Support said this printer has 3 drivers. Now the RIP. I think it is a good RIP, but if your Spider reads only RGB and the RIP profiling is done using a CMYK workflow, then the two can't really work together. Did your Spider Pro come with the PrintFIX Plus software? If it did, then you should be able to create your own printer profiles. I haven't used the Spider before so I can't really say how that is done, but maybe someone can help here. Doesn't the RIP come with some printer profiles? Problem here is that there are so many printers, even more types of medias so it's terribly hard for a RIP company to make profiles for all these medias. Come in Spyder Pro and i1 to help create profiles for your medias. Another thought that comes to mind....doesn't the RIP support the Spyder as a reading device? This is quite a bit, but let me know if it makes sense and we can take it from there. Its a combo sign /photo rip called Flexisign Pro 8.1.
