I have a similar setup - but since I've used the RIP for proofing I both moved my office location and bought a new Mac Pro. Have been meaning to set up my HP 130nr and the old HP RIP since moving in, so your post lit the fire under my butt to see if I could get it working. The good news is that I have it up and running - I've always used an old Mac as a print server, and I just reinstalled the HP RIP server on a G5 iMac running 10.4.11, but it should work fine on 10.3 as well . Once you have the Server software running on an older machine, just make sure to set up the "server" with Printer Sharing. You can do this via System Preferences/Sharing/Services (the left tab). Make the Printer Sharing box is checked. With the RIP Server application running, you can now go back to your 10.5 machine and open System Preferences/Print & Fax. Click the "+" button below your listed printers. Once you do this, the RIP that is running on your other computer (the new "print server") will show up on a list. Select this, let it configure, then Add the HP 130 RIP as a new printer in 10.5. You can then print from your applications to the HP via the old, discontinued RIP. Like you, I got burned when HP killed the RIP. I'm trying to scratch by until they come up with native RIP for the new Intel Mac's (seems most still run via Rosetta), thought on my last major print job in Aug 2007 (240 pp 4 color book with a varnish) the proofs still matched the end result perfectly.
