Mark, if you still don't have an answer to your problem, call me.

On a cursory level it sounds like you have run out of room on your computer
so Onyx is unable to complete the processing.
it gets the page info, hence the paper feeding out afterwards, but stops
when it hits the wall processing. Clean all the temp fgiles of, delete any
out dated files fromt eh Onyx files folder or move the working folder to a
drive with more room. I have seen the many times.
it could be a bug in the software, but I doubt it. Onyx is usually pretty
stable. If you have placed eps files one of these may be corrupt.
Typically that flag is a long processingn time and a print with everything
good, except for that area around the placed file

Secondly, the res of the file shouldn't affect ink levels i.e flooding as
you describe, something is off obviously but cant re fixed without more
info.
The advise to reload your software is a good one, given you have enough free
space on your drive to process the files to begin with.

You could save as a pdf and run that through as well , but generally
printing from Illustrator produces the cleanest colors.

Your images do not need to be over 150dpi HP's algorithm requries basically
4 dots to make a pixel , so 150x4=600dpi
Even at the600x1200 mode, 150 is all that is needed.

Hope that offers some direction, if not, call.
I'll try and help as best I can.
