That is correct, warranty starts on per the date of the invoice, no questions asked, although registering or keeping a copy nearby is ideal. The reference the tech mentioned is a the pre-warranty all HP's have, it is bascially 18 months from mfg date so it is recorded into the system to cover shipping and storage until actually sold. then is finalized by registering the unit when sold.
Also note that several items are being covered out of warranty, so if you get things out of warranty, get a HP dealer or their rep involved just in case. HP is serious abut this product and is trying to make sure users are happy with the new product line.
