[My apologies if a second copy of this message shows up; there seems to be some
problem posting to the list.]

You can get the portfile and patch as an attachment to bug 7201
(http://bugzilla.opendarwin.org/ show_bug.cgi?id=7201). It won't be committed
until the bugs are worked out, and there is another port that needs to be
committed first: you will need to also install PyQt
(http://bugzilla.opendarwin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8480) for the GUI apps
(hp-toolbox, etc.). Some other comments:

1. I've only tested it on my own machine (PowerPC with OS 10.4) with my
device. 2. To integrate with OS X's CUPS installation, it installs 4 files
outside of the DarwinPorts tree:

/usr/libexec/cups/backend/hp
/usr/libexec/cups/backend/hpfax
/usr/libexec/cups/filter/foomatic-rip
/usr/share/cups/model/foomatic-ppds

These should be removed if you do a regular "port uninstall". But it does let
you print from OS X apps.

3. The portfile will instruct you on how to create a startup item that
launches the hplip daemons (hpiod and hpssd); you should restart after you do
this. Otherwise you need to launch them manually and then quit and restart
cups.

4. You _may_ need to turn off/uninstall any OS X native HP software. I'm not
sure about this, but I ended up uninstalling mine while I work on this.

I'd be interested to know how it turns out. You can post any error logs, etc.
to bug 7201 if you want.
