The SANE people were quite clear that HPAIO is using the API incorrectly, so
I guess this means it will need to be re-visited, yes.  Someone posted in a
related thread a pointer to a thread in an alioth.debian.org mailinglist,
where the correct way to use the API is described by one of the SANE
people...
