Hello, I am using HPLIP 1.6.12
According to the "ldd /usr/bin/hpijs" output HPIJS requires now libcups.so (up to HPLIP 1.6.10 it didn't require it). I would like to ask how HPIJS can be used with a non-CUPS printing system (e.g. LPRng) when it requires the CUPS library? It seems http://hplip.sourceforge.net/tech_docs/overview.html --------------------------------------------------------------- HPIJS is still backward compatible with existing spoolers --------------------------------------------------------------- is no longer 100% true - o.k. strictly speaking it is somehow "backward compatible" but I would understand it as if it would work without any CUPS stuff. It would be nice if you could implement CUPS specific stuff in /usr/bin/hpijs for example via "dlopen" so that /usr/bin/hpijs could fall back to work as before when there is no CUPS library. At least for us (i.e. for openSUSE 10.2) it should be no problem when /usr/bin/hpijs requires the CUPS library because we provide the CUPS library in a seperated RPM package cups-libs which does not conflict with our lprng package (only our packages cups and cups-client conflict with lprng), you may have a look at http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Printer_Configuration_from_SUSE_LINUX_9.2_on "...switch from CUPS to LPRng..."
