Hi. I found 2 problems in the automatic installer when installing on
ubuuntu 7.04 (or to be more exact kubuntu):

Installer version:
HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.7.6)
HPLIP Installer ver. 2.0

1.
8-<-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEPENDENCY AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION
----------------------------------
Running 'sudo apt-get install --yes --force-yes libsane'
Please wait, this may take several minutes...
warning: An optional dependency 'scanimage' is still missing.
warning: Some features may not function as expected.

There's no package scanimage in ubuntu. But the scanimage binary is
provided in the sane-utils package. After the installation of this
package the warning disapeared.

2.

BUILD AND INSTALL
-----------------
Running './configure --disable-network-build --disable-pp-build
--enable-fax-build --enable-gui-build --enable-scan-build
--enable-doc-build --disable-foomatic-ppd-install
--enable-foomatic-xml-install --disable-hpijs-only-build
--prefix=/usr'
Please wait, this may take several minutes...
error: './configure --disable-network-build --disable-pp-build
--enable-fax-build --enable-gui-build --enable-scan-build
--enable-doc-build --disable-foomatic-ppd-install
--enable-foomatic-xml-install --disable-hpijs-only-build
--prefix=/usr' command failed with status code 12
8-<-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After entering the hplip dir and running mannualy the same cofigure
command, I found that the actual error is:

configure: error: cannot find sane-backends-devel support (or
--disable-scan-build)

After installing the packages libsane-dev and libsane-extras-dev the
problem was solved (I am not sure which one did it), and the automatic
installer worked OK.

Congratulations for the fine installer, and keep the good work
supporting Linux. It's because of your work that I always buy HP
printers and recomend it to my friends (Linux users or not).
