Hi Cory, Thank you very much for your prompt response.
So far I actually only tried with the hp-toolbox. But a minute ago, I also tried from OpenOffice, choosing the fax printer queue and subsequently selecting one fax recipient and press on "send fax" The Fax failed with "fax send error" from the toolbox and the exact same entries in /var/log/messages.
