How about if you restart hplip and cups?
/etc/init.d/hplip restart
/etc/init.d/cups restart
or /etc/init.d/cupsys restart if you get an error.
And then try again?

I use the hp:/ backend as the hp-makeuri command prints it:

Can you disconnect the
printer, run "tail -f /var/log/messages" and reconnect the printer and
post any messages returned? as well as run dmesg | grep hp and post
that as well.
No messages concerned the HP printer or HPLIP are displayed :-(
When I run hp-info, I can have all the info concerned my HP printer. So
I suppose that HPLIP can communicates with it.
