thanks for that tip, i had to look into the usb filesystem, its not in my fstab

i mounted it
mount -t usbfs none /proc/bus/usb

and reconnected the printer , and turned off cups then restart hplip, started hplip and it found it
and i got the following, and started hp-toolbox, which directed me to the cups web interface and it found it.
