thanks for your reply. 

I have set the printer to 4x6 in the CUPS interface and print the test
page : it is OK. This probably means the drivers are correctly
installed.

However, when I want to print 4x6 photos (landscape orientation) using :

- gThumb : the picture is printed with a horizontal shift to the right
of approx. 3 cm, leaving 2 cm blank on the left side of the paper

- Picasa (linux version) : the picture is printed with a horizontal
shift to the left of approx. 13 cm, leaving 13 cm blank on the right
side of the paper 

- F-spot : the printed picture is enlarged and therefore only a part of
it is printed on the 4x6 paper.

In all cases I have carefully set the print parameter to 4x6 in the
software print menu and also left 4x6 in the CUPS printer settings.
