thank you very much for your fast response. After installing the latest hplip release, everything works fine. All my installation steps were correct, and now I can access the scanner and the printer. HP-Toolbox also works, so everything is fine!

If possible upgrade to the current hplip release. It sounds like YaST configured the printer using the usb:// backend--for hplip to function correctly the printer needs to be configured using the hp:// backend. YaST can sometimes not configure the printer correctly. If you can't upgrade to the newest hplip then try setting up the printer using the cups web config. go to http://localhost:631 in your browser, then add new printer, etc.

as time goes by, I become more and more confused. Since hours I try to set up my HP Photosmart 2575 for scanning under SuSE Linux 10.1 (OpenSuSE). Setting up the printer with YAST was very straight and the printer works fine. My distribution provides me with hplip version 0.9.7.
What I am absolutely missing is a HOWTO for setting up the scanner. I configured the dll.conf file and made sure that net and hpais was available and not deactivated. When starting scanimage -L I get the information that no scanner is found. I absolutely don't know what has to be done to access the scanner over the network. Maybe this is absolutely simple, but without any information about how, I can't set up the scanner.
Could anybody please send me a link or something where to find a description about using a remote scanner over a network?
