So you say you can start cups but it doesn't write to the error log nor 
does it anything else useful, right?

Time for a check of the system log, and go hunting bad harware, I'd say. 
fsck, memtest86, smartmontools or the manufacturers test programs for 
the disks would be good starting points.

Or start with a new and known-to-work cups installation.

Hi,

Ok I've reinstalled cups again and found the previous error (cups configured with --prefix=/usr, use /etc/var/log/ !).

Now cups writes in /var/log/error_log

In error_log i think the problem is

D [11/Sep/2006:15:37:07 +0200] cupsdSendError: 13 code=304 (Not Modified)

D [11/Sep/2006:15:37:08 +0200] cupsdSendError: 12 code=401 (Unauthorized)
