NO!
(Because the answer is not as simple as that ;-)

Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES9) does not include HPLIP
at all (because SLES9 is older than HPLIP and our service packs
usually do not provide completely new software).

If you use software packages which you did not get from
our official software sources (our CDs or DVDs or our
official software updates) and/or if you use self-compiled
software, we normally do not provide support for such software.

I.e. you won't get support from us for HPLIP on SLES9.
If you don't have any support contract with us regarding
your SLES9 system, you are of course totally free to do
whatever you like but have a look at
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Printer_Configuration_from_SUSE_LINUX_9.3_on

Additionally note that compiling HPLIP on such an old system
may lead to whatever difficulties (if it is possible at all).
E.g. HPLIP may require whatever newer version of whatever
other software (e.g. Python or PyQt) which may be not available
for SLES9 (except you also update those software which then may
break other stuff on your SLES9 system).

But the actual question was not about HPLIP but simply
which color LaserJets are "totaly compatible" with SLES9:

Regarding plain printing, any PostScript printer is totally
compatible with SLES9 because SLES9 uses CUPS as printing system
and CUPS works perfectly with any PostScript printer, see
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Purchasing_a_Printer_and_Compatibility

Regarding "totally" (what exactly do you mean with "totally"?):

For example the printer may provide a connection type
(i.e. parallel port, USB, various network connection types, ...)
which is not supported under Linux (whatever proprietary stuff)
or which cannot work well under Linux (e.g. a half-broken LPD or
IPP implementation in a printer's built-in network card or in a
third-party printserver-box).

Furthermore note that CUPS (at least CUPS version 1.1.x)
does not provide feedback from the actual printer (e.g. about
toner level, paper out, paper jam, ...).
CUPS provides feedback for the print queue (e.g. job is waiting,
job is printing) but not for the printer.

At the moment there is no generic way in the printing system
to check continuosly the printer state.
Only when the backend runs (i.e. when a job is actively sent
to the printer) there is a communication with the printer
but after the job was completely sent to it and then a bit later
the printer runs out of paper there is no generic way in the
printing system to query the printer state.
Regarding CUPS backends see for example our support database
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell

Furthermore printer state stuff is very model specific.
Each kind of printer models report their state (e.g. online/offline,
out of paper/ink/toner, paper jam, ...) in various different ways.
Therefore the generic CUPS backends cannot support it.

But a special backend made by the manufacturer of the printer
could of course provide much more device specific features.
In particular for HP printers which are supported by the HPLIP
software there is such a backend "hp" and a special user fronted
tool "hp-toolbox".

But I don't know to what extent the current "hp" backend
supports the printer state for each HP color LaserJet and
for each of the possible connection types (e.g. parallel port,
USB, FireWire, network via built-in HP network card, network via
third-party printserver-box, network via (Windows) SMB share,
network via LPD protocol, network via IPP protocol, ...).

Kind Regards
