It works now :-)

It looks like the SlackBuild (script to build slackware package) for
hplip changed. It is now necessary to specify that we want to enable the
net-snmp support. Didn't see that change. Moreover, it's important not
to forget to restart the hplip service with /etc/rc.d/rc.hplip restart
to use the new version.

I think it would be easy to support officialy slackware distributions.
There is now an official package for hplip for slackware. It is still in
the testing directory but it should soon replace the old hpijs package.

The package is here:
ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/slackware-current/testing/packages/hplip-1.6.9-i486-1.tgz
It's not compiled with net-snmp support, but it easy to rebuild the
package, by getting the SlackBuild here
ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/slackware-current/testing/source/hplip
and setting the variable SNMP to yes.

Thanks for your help.

Looking at:
Nov 22 01:16:45 hpiod: no JetDirect support enabled

It looks like HPLIP was compiled without Jetdirect support..

May need to uninstall hplip, remove /usr/share/hplip and reinstall.

Hi,

I have a HP Officejet 7310 printer with hplip 1.6.9. As I explained
recently, I can't communicate with the printer from any computer
anymore.

hp-check doesn't show anything wrong. The output of hp-makeuri -ldebug
<ip> is:
hp-makeuri[3232]: debug: Trying IP address
hp-makeuri[3232]: debug: (xmit) Sending data on channel (3)
hp-makeuri[3232]: debug:
'msg=makeuri\nbus=net\nhostname=192.168.0.5\nport=1\n'
hp-makeuri[3232]: debug: (xmit) Reading data on channel (3)
hp-makeuri[3232]: debug: 'msg=MakeURIResult\nresult-code=12\n'
error: Device not found

I have traced back the error to the hpiod daemon which receives the
makeuri message but sends back a MakeURIResult with an error-code of 12.
Since the source code of hpiod isn't available I can't go any further. I
can the printer. I scanned the printer for open ports, everything is
normal. I tried restarting hplip, cups, the system but to no avail.

The /var/log/syslog file shows this information when executing hp-setup
<ip> as root:
Nov 22 01:16:45 hpiod: no JetDirect support enabled
Nov 22 01:16:45 hpiod: unable to read System::MakeUriFromIP
Nov 22 01:16:45 python: hpssd[2430]: warning: Inrecognized URI:
parallel:/dev/lp0
Nov 22 01:16:45 python: hp-setup[3365] error: No devices found.
Nov 22 01:16:45 python: hp-setup[3365] error: Error occured during
interactive mode. Exiting.

The printer used to work perfectly before it stopped working without
explanation.

Thanks in advance for your help.
