Yes, it could be the font or that you may have selected bold font in OO.
For printing anything else other than high quality images, normal mode
will do very well.

Subject: [Hplip-help] printed letters are too bold

Hello dear hplip people!
Thank you for supporting Linux!
I am on Fedora Core 6 (Zod). I have an hp 6980. It is an ink printer.
Overall, I like it. I would like to make it print in a " finer" way, I
mean not so bold as it is doing right now.I've seen ink printers with
good output quality (alas, Cannon on Windows). Pretty bold letters
result from all applications, although, both on the screen and in the
print preview they are not. Just a couple light fonts from OOffice won't
do it. Is it a problem of the system not having such fonts or it is a
printer problem? Via cups I adjusted its properties to high quality
print (normal would be simply unacceptable). Should I try printing from
Windows, which I still keep alive on my box just for some experimental
purposes ? :)
I appreciate your help!
