I have exactly the same setup (2710 with Linux). I'm running Ubuntu
and all I had to do was to run 'gnome-cups-add' (as root) and answer
the questions about the printer make and model. I call it 'psc', so

lp -d psc file.ps
lp -d psc file.pdf
lpr -Ppsc file.pdf

etc.

all work; color is handled automatically. I don't know whether your
distribution uses CUPS, but I found it was very easy with CUPS (which
is where gnome-cups-add comes from). I also set it up without CUPS,
using magicfilter, which was a bit more of a pain, and I might have
those config files around and can send you.

I used to hate CUPS in its earlier releases, but now I like it --
everything configures easily and works well.

Good luck,
