hplip version 1.6.12
fedora core 5 (fully updated)

The installer script worked fine. Took a bit to figure out how to
configure the printer in the cups system and create a queue for it.

The problem is that the printer must be power cycled after every print
job. After some experimentation I have narrowed it down to the
following:

To achieve error free operation the printer must be powered off with the
power switch on the printer or unplugged after every print job. Then
turned back on. If this is done without fail the printer otherwise
functions as expected. Needless to say that the powercycle thing is a
very major pita that if not resolved will result in the printer being
returned to the place of purchase.

If a second print job is sent to the printer without powercycling, the
power and resume lights on the printer will flash rapidly. The printer
must then be powercycled and cups stopped, hplip restarted, and cups
started. The pending print job will then immediately print. If there
are multiple print jobs in the queue this scenario will have to be
repeated until the queue is empty.

The addresses used by the USB subsystem increments after every
powercycle. I think this is expected and normal behavior. What to my
eye is not normal is the driver removal after sending a print job. With
the driver gone a second print job gets an expected "no device" error.
