I guess you tried the installer from the HPLIP web page. However, the problem you encountered is not directly related to HPLIP itself as the error is produced by the package manager while installing prerequired packages which are teched from the internet. If you have not done this yet, try to update your package list (sudo apt-get update), maybe you have outdated package lists on your system. You can also try to install HPLIP via the step by step manual (find it on the webpage), or try to install the packages individually. This might help to discover which package installation causes problems. If you are not comfortable with the command-line, think of using synaptic, the graphical package manager that comes with Ubuntu. Hope this helps.
