OK, that clears it up. Thanks for the detailed write-up and scan.
I will dig around next week and see if I can figure out how to make this
work (it has to work on all 1,111 models we support...).
Thanks,
Don

There is no real info on this Diagnostic Test Page. The Diagnostic Test
Page
is a function which is integrated in every HP printer and in nearly every
printer by other manufacturers.
This function can be invoked by pressing a special key sequence with the
printer keys and by a printer command - at least I guess there's a command
in
the printer language. At least it can be invoked by the HP Toolbox for
Windows.
This key sequence was documented officially by HP earlier even if it was
pretty hidden and hard to find. But meanwhile I can't find this
documentation
anymore. I don't know if the software command is documented officially by
HP
somewhere.
On the Diagnostic Test Page the printer prints a grid per ink cartridge
where
every single nozzle prints a short line so that the grid looks like a
diagonally shifted rectangle. With this Diagnostic Test Page it's possible
to
check if the ink cartridge works correctly and if every nozzle of the
printhead is free and working. With the normal Test Page this is not
possible
because on this Test Page you don't see a single line for every single
nozzle.
In the Toolbox (HP Device Manager) for Linux this functions belongs on the
page "Tools & Settings".
I currently can't print such a Diagnostic Test Page because my ink
cartridges
are empty but I found an older printout in my wastebasket which I scanned.
I've attached it to this e-mail.
