What's your parallel port set to in your BIOS? Should be ECP.
Also run
su
tail -f /var/log/messages
try and scan
post your log in /var/log/messages

I would also leave SElinux diabled for the moment as there are all kinds
of
extra permissions that will complicate the issue.
