John,

I'm glad you are up and running. However keep in mind that we do not
support HPOJ.

In addition HPLIP removes the print module automatically so this shouldn't
be a concern with HPLIP.

We do not recommend that anyone use HPOJ in any fashion or form. It's very
outdated and completely unsupported.

All the best,

Aaron

Hi all...

Solved the problem. After a while, I found the answer in the HPOJ
documentation. It seems there is a conflict between the HPIOD access and
the older (and automatically loaded) print module in kernels 2.4.xx.

Solution is to remove the printer module:

rmmod printer

and be sure to avoid loading it in the future.

a) by recompiling the kernel without usb-printer support, or

b) by following the instructions in

http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/hpoj-cvs/doc/setup-connect-details.html

basically adding a line to /etc/modules.conf:

       alias printer off

   and to /etc/hotplug/blacklist:

       printer

I'd suggest adding a hint to the FAQ docs in HPLIP! It's not entirely
intuitive that printing works fine, but 'printer' module must be
removed to be able to scan.
