It crashed your *kernel*. It is much worse than hplip misbehaving, and it is a sure sign of either: a bug in either the kernel (likely), kernel image is corrupt (reinstall kernel to make sure), or you have bad ram or another hardware problem. -- "One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them.
