Hello,

in the past I've used an EPSON GT-7000 scanner (usb) model, with was connected
via usb to my networkserver. Every client was abel to access the scanner via
SANE.

Unfortunately ma scannedr died an ma HP Deskjet 930C is'n still the best
printer. So I bought a new HP Photosmart C6180, very nice an puwerful
machine - I still hope so. So far so good.

I've connected the HP Photosmart C6180 to my network via the
ethernet-interface and assigned a IP-Adress to the machine.
Printing from my clients is no problem. I've added a new printer to CUPS and
used the PPD file HP-PhotoSmart_C6100-hpijs.ppd.gz.

But a few point I haven't understood:

a) Must I connect my HP Photosmart C6180 via usb to
   my server, or
b) Can I access my HP Photosmart C6180 for scanning
   via the network-connection?
c) Is is right, that I must install the HPLIP-package
   for onlyusing "scan"?
d) Must I install the HPLIP-softwarepackage on every
client or ist this enough if I install the package
   only on my server?

Ohhh I forgott, I'm using opensuse 10.0 on my Server an opensuse 10.2 on all
my clients here.

ciao,
BC
