Hi All, I currently have a networked HP PSC 2510 (192.168.0.22) which is shared to my network (192.168.0.1/24) via a Cups/Sane server (192.168.0.36) running hpoj (ptal) backed. This has worked quite flawlessly for some time now. It enables me to use the print/scan server from several windows workstations (using IPP and sane-twain) without needing to install the drivers and further lets me print and scan from unsupported platforms (like a Windows 2003 terminal server and until recently, Vista). Generally I've only needed the HP drivers on windows to allow for remote pc fax (and a modem on the terminal server since it cannot load the hp windows drivers).
However I wanted to try to get pc-faxing working so I installed hplip 2.7.6.1 from the source after removing my hpoj software. When I did this and configured hplip I noticed that remote scanning (via scand) broke and that xsane (locally) did not auto detect the scanner but needed the "hpaio:/net/psc_2500_series?ip=192.168.0.22" command line passed to it. Short term, I'm running both - ptal is not running, sane is pointing at hboj and cups is using the hplip printers (which share out just fine!). Long term, this is not an ideal solution. So this leaves a few questions: 1) how can I get remote scanning to work with hplip as it did with hpoj? 2) how can I get local scanning to work with automatic detection of scanner ? 3) can I build a hplip-hpjis only config and use it with hpoj and still retain pc-faxing? 4) if the above questions are answered in the negative, can I run hpoj on one system to allow remote scanning and hplip 2.7.6.1 on another to allow remote printing without causing a conflict?
