hplip v2.7.6 with CUPS v1.1.23 functions almost perfectly
with my HP LJ3050. (Can not get toner levels).

But, with CUPS 1.2 or 1.3, there is no print output.
Here is the tail of my syslog when a print is called.

 HP_LaserJet_3050?serial=00CNBJ231125:
io/hpmud/musb.c 512: invalid product id string:
  Operation not permitted
 HP_LaserJet_3050?serial=00CNBJ231125:
  io/hpmud/musb.c 966:
  unable to open hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_3050?serial=00CNBJ231125
 HP_LaserJet_3050?serial=00CNBJ231125:
INFO: open device failed; will retry in 30 seconds...

This is really bizarre because 'hp-info' correctly reads all data,
'scanimage' functions perfectly, there are no errors in the
/var/cups/...logs, & CUPS 1.2 or 1.3 WILL print properly
using my usb kernel print driver!

I have tried various CUPS packages AND I have even built my
own, to no avail.

This is just my opinion, but, it seems that ever since Apple
'bought' CUPS, this product has become an unwieldy behemoth
with documentation that is often vague, contradictory, and
incomplete.

Thanks for the prompt attention.

Richard
