G'day all, This has been driving me _insane_ for months now, and I've found a way around it (which is remove hplip and get cups to use /dev/usb/lp0).. I thought I may provide some information and see whether anyone can help me diagnose the problem however.
The simple fault description is printing via hplip can take up to 45 minutes to spit out one full colour page, whereas cat page.ps > /dev/usb/lp0 takes less than 60 seconds. Cups configured to use the usb printer directly is the same.. less than 60 seconds. (where page.ps is a Postscript 2 file of about 35MB) This has been happening since the version of hplip in Debian 3.1. I upgraded to 4.0 (1.6.10 I think) and then removed all that and installed from source the lastest (2.7.7). No matter, the problem persists. I've tried hanging the printer directly on the motherboard USB ports, via a USB 2.0 hub and via a USB 1.1 hub.. no difference. (well, with the USB 1.1 hub cat page.ps > /dev/usb/lp0 takes a little longer..) hp-check[12115]: info: : Initializing.
