If it is supported, install the gutsy supplied hplip package, ex. via synaptic. And then, finally, use hp-setup to configure the printer. With Ubuntu, you need to use "sudo hp-setup" for this (without the quotes. It's easy, intuitive and works great, if your printer is supported, that is.
