Some great hints there from Roan and clacke.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.4. It told me the file needed to be converted
and I let it. Then I clicked Edit->Select All (Ctrl-A), and then
Edit->Resize Page to Selection (Shift-Ctrl-R) and saved the result as
name.svg. The new file is now viewable in a browser (Vivaldi was my
first choice) - (I used Dolphin->Open With->Vivaldi).

I have no idea why it did but it worked ;-)
