With currently 28 (5 ½ weeks) of shows in the reserve queue, a more sedate explanation may be called for. We could change it so that if there are 15 or more shows in the queue, we add something like "You are listening to a show from the Reserve Queue. This show was submitted $time ago to cover occasions like this where there are gaps in the queue." When we get under 10, "You are listening to a show from the Reserve Queue. We now have less than two weeks of shows in the reserve queue. This would be a good time to consider submitting a show. This show was submitted $time ago to cover occasions like this where there are gaps in the queue." When we get under 5: "You are listening to a show from the Reserve Queue. We have only $number of shows left in the reserve show. We are airing it now because we had free slots that were not filled. This is a community project that needs listeners to contribute shows in order to survive. Please consider recording a show for Hacker Public Radio. This show was submitted $time ago to cover occasions like this where there are gaps in the queue."
I am for this approach, and vote for adding the message urgency ramp up as described.
The under 0 " Thank you for listening to Hacker Public Radio. We are shutting down the project. Goodbye and thanks for the Fish." ;-)
I mean if we are going out, lets make sure to use the exact quote :D "So long, and thanks for all the fish"
I like the idea of a more granular approach. Should we put in things like when the next free slot is ? There are 10 free slots in the coming two weeks. etc.
I don't know if that would encourage more queue watching giving the exact count, or maybe help with that urge since they know what it is? I am okay with adding it. --Roan
