My understanding, given that it's been a while since this happened, and
I'm not in a position to look up the details at the moment, is that
there was a Matrix to Libera bridge that was developed by the Matrix
team. IIRC Libera kindly asked them to knock it off because the bridge
was causing serious issues on their side. I think Libera went as far as
to ban it. It is honestly a shame, since when that bridge stopped
working I essentially abandoned IRC.
