There may be a misunderstanding about copyrights in this project. I do
not claim to be an expert, but I am writing this to raise a flag to the
maintainers who may want to hire legal advice.

The people who contribute source code hold the copyright. I understand
that there is a "works for hire" clause which may indicate that the
project holds the copyright for contributed works, however it appears to
require a written agreement between the parties (project and
contributor), which of course was not done in my case (and probably
everyone else too).

In my case, any software I contributed, I hold the copyright, but I
release it under the version of the hsqldb license at the time I
uploaded the files. If you do not like this arrangement, then the easy
answer is to not use any code I uploaded.

And lastly, I have investigated more about licenses and decided not to
contribute to BSD style projects. So I will no longer contribute to
hsqldb.

I wish you luck on your project and I have enjoyed the time spent here.
