I'm joining Frank Schoenheit, OOo DB lead, to ask for volunteers to
translate the HSQLDB error messages into different languages. Please drop a
note if you would like to participate.

The file in question is in the HSQLDB zip as
src/org/hsqldb/resources/sql-error-messages.properties

We already have an italian translation in the same folder which you can use
as example.

Subject: localizing HSQLDB error messages - call for contribution

Hi,

those of you not running an english version of OpenOffice.org might have
noticed it: Error Messages originating directly from the HSQLDB engine
are not localized, i.e. still in English.

In a future release, we will integrate properly translated error
messages, which will probably also switch with the UI language you can
select in Tools|Options. For the moment (i.e.: for 2.0.x), we would like
to choose another approach, asking the native-lang communities for help.

HSQLDB features an easy mechanism for localization, which basically is
adding a JAR file with properly-named resource files to the installation.

We would like to provide the community with such JAR files, for all
desired languages. What's missing, however, is the actual translations.

This is where we're asking you for help: If you are a native (or
good-enough :) speaker of a language other than English, have some fair
database knowledge, and want to help that others speaking your language
can see readable error messages in OpenOffice.org, then
- grab the file sql-error-messages.properties from [1]
(direct link to the always-the-newest revision is [2]
- translate the strings therein into your language, using an ordinary
  text editor
- send the file to me ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

I will collect all those files, and provide a download link somewhere on
the DBA pages (if somebody knows a better location, or wants to prodive
an own JAR in your own NL community, just let me know).
Additionally, the HSQLDB project is probably happy to integrate those
translations into own future releases, if you provide permissions to do so.

Thanks & Ciao
Frank
