Correct, that the HSQLDB classes are not being found in the CLASSPATH. Wrong that you set it manually in the init script. In your config file, set the variable HSQLDB_JAR_PATH to the exact path to your hsqldb.jar file. The location of the config file is explained in step 2 of the UNIX chapter.
