I agree that the patch is not portable enough to be used generally - I was just offering it for people running something similar to my system which presumably many are as 3.1.5 is the current stable release (and really, who uses anything except GNU Linux? ;).
Anyway, I tried the 3.1.6 development snapshot with LC_LOCALE=C and this does indeed appear to fix the problem which is great. However, as this is a dev snapshot, is it actually robust enough to use in a production environment? When will the stable release of 3.1.6 occur?
