According to Lachlan Andrew:

None of the default template files use MATCH_MESSAGE, and I don't recall
ever seeing any discussion about it.  So, I don't expect changing this
is going to cause anyone much grief.  I'd say feel free to do it before
3.2.0b5 goes out.
