Basically, it looks like there's now a GPL'd Java implementation of what Google has published about their "PageRank" feature. The current ht://Dig "backlink_factor" is a quick-and-dirty hack I put in to try to get some of the benefit of the PageRank weightings that Google uses.

So if anyone's feeling interested, take a look at the Java code:

It also looks like there's a compact method for storing the link graph, which might add all sorts of useful features to ht://Dig (e.g. presenting pages that link to a search result, searching linked or linking pages for search words, etc.)
