It's probably easiest if you parse the output--i.e. have some sort of 
"wrapper" around htsearch. This could even be something as simple as 
an SSI that checks for the state of the query string.

If you wish to have two separate databases, you could also have the 
initial search form be dynamically generated and thus pick the 
"config" field depending on the ?lang=X part of the URL. The result 
pages would then fill this in automatically.
