You can index plenty of non-HTML files with versions well before 3.2. 
What I said was that if you wish to index file:/// URLs, then you may 
want to try the 3.2 code. The local_urls code currently does not 
detect MIME types, so it will only look at certain file extensions 
hard-coded in.

If, however, you wish to index via HTTP, it can identify whatever 
MIME type you want and index accordingly.

This simply determines which URLs are accepted or rejected, not 
whether the local_urls code will read them.
