I'm not exactly following you here. What do you mean by "the defaults?"

Do you mean that you have:

limit_urls_to: $(start_url)
start_url: http://www.couchie.com/

If so, does it hit the archives.html page? Certainly there are a 
number of HTML errors on this page. For one, you are missing a 
trailing </a> on all of your archive links, e.g.:

<A HREF="archives/20001118.html">Issue# 2000.11.18: One down, 
Infinity to go.<BR>

Furthermore, I wouldn't recommend putting <br> tags *inside* <a></a> 
pairs since this really doesn't make sense. (Is the return really 
part of the link?)

Also, you have this construct:
<A 
HREF="http://www.couchie.com/index.html"><H3>&nbsp;Couchie.com&nbsp;</H3></A>

Again, I think you want to have the header outside the <a href></a> pair.

I suspect the problem is simply these HTML errors.
