There is a mechanism to do simple string substitutions in URLs, using
url_part_aliases. There's not a whole lot of documentation on it, but
you may be able to find more by searching the mailing list archives
for "url_part_aliases", as it's been discussed many times.
It's documented here: http://www.htdig.org/attrs.html#url_part_aliases
The key is to have two different settings of this parameter, for digging
and for searching. In your htdig and htmerge config file, set it to encode
certain parts of URLs, and in your htsearch config file, set it to decode
these encodings into different substrings.
