The config field will accept subdirectories of the default config directory. So, for example, you could set:
${config_dir}/USERNAME/user.conf
or set /home as your config directory before compiling. (IMHO, this isn't a great idea.)
I'd prefer to store the config files in each user's account. That way they have permission to edit them.
