Oh dear. You have a *very* old version. It's definitely older than
3.1.0b1. I'd upgrade to 3.1.5 ASAP--you'll need to reindex, but it will
fix a lot of problems. For one, older versions don't have the same
attributes, naturally. :-)

Comment tags in HTML can be multi-line. So anything inside a comment tag
is ignored--but to do this, ht://Dig is picky about what is and what is
not a comment tag.

No. For example <img> ALT text, META descriptions and so on are
content. And tags certainly affect how text is indexed (e.g. the various
_factor attributes).
