That depends on how much you're indexing. 200-300 HTML document on
a moderately fast PC, using local_urls, only takes about a minute.
If you're digging a lot of PDFs or other documents that need
external_parsers, if you're digging via HTTP, or if you're digging
many hundreds or thousands of documents, I'd expect it to take longer.
Try rundig -v (or -vv or -vvv) to see what it's actually doing.
Have a look at your db.wordlist file to see what words are being kept
after htdig/htmerge. Try searching for just one of these words in
htsearch. If it's in db.wordlist, but htsearch turns up the no match
page for that word, there's a problem somewhere in htmerge when it builds
the db.words.db database from db.wordlist, or htsearch is having problems
reading it. Check to make sure you have lots of free disk space on the
volume that holds your database_dir. Also, if you've experimented with
different versions of htdig, make sure you're now consistently using the
same versions of htdig, htmerge & htsearch.
If you're not getting the no match page, but instead you're getting an
empty results page, check your template files. One may be missing or
unreadable, or you may have a bad setting of your template_map attribute.
