Well, there are a couple options.
I would guess from the error message above, that the htdig configure
script picked up the wrong path to acroread. You can either correct that,
by setting the pdf_parser attribute in your htdig.conf, or you can do away
with acroread altogether and go with an external converter script like
doc2html.pl, which uses pdftotext from the xpdf package to index PDFs.
